South Korean game developer XLGAMES has just announced their venture into NFTs and play-to-earn as they launch the p2e spinoff to the MMORPG ArcheAge, entitled ArcheWorld. Complete with its own token and NFT assets, ArcheAge is launching in Q2 of 2022, and is gearing up to host a minting event later this March 2022.
XLGAMES describes ArcheWorld as the “first seamless, open-world MMORPG that incorporates NFTs based on blockchain technology” incorporating key concepts of a blockchain game title such as player ownership of assets, items and characters. The game will also refrain from doing any actions or decisions that will alter the game balance in favor of the company’s earnings, meaning that the asset value could rely mainly on the community or players itself.
Just like many pre-existing play-to-earn games, ArcheWorld assets which also include lands, housing systems, gears, pets and vehicles will be turned into NFTs which players and users can then trade or swap in the game’s marketplace.
In terms of tokens, ArcheWorld will come with the Blue Salt (BSLT) token, running on the BORA blockchain that is currently operating under Kakao Games. BORA was first revealed back in 2018 and was originally developed by Way2Bit before Kakao’s acquisition back in 2020. BORA runs on the ERC-20 smart contract technology and is one of the many sidechains based on the Ethereum mainnet.
Aside from BSLT, ArcheWorld will also feature another token called “Archeum” which can be obtained in-game and is utilized mainly as a resource for player progression. Archeum can also be swapped with BSLT which can then be swapped to BORA for trading.
ArcheWorld plans to launch in July 2022 with a pre-registration already ongoing and running until March 23, 2022. Pre-registration participants will have the chance to participate in the ArcheWorld Fandom NFT card minting event on March 28, 2022. The minting event will consist of 2600 character cards from ArcheAge’s in-game races each with rare cards also included.
ArcheAge is a hit MMORPG or multiplayer online role playing game launched in South Korea back 2013 with the North American release the following year. The game is described as a “sandpark” MMORPG as it incorporates elements from the open content style of a sandbox game and the more structured play experience of a “theme park” game title.
