Sky Mavis has just announced the Axie Infinity Origin Championship, a official Axie Origin tournament which will be exclusive only to players residing in the Philippines. The tournament will be pitting 8 of the best Axie players in the country as invited participants against 8 players that will qualify from the open qualifiers on May, 20-22, 2022. The Axie Infinity Origin Championship will happening on June 11-12, 2022 and livestreamed from the Philippines on the official Axie Infinity Twitch Channel.
In addition to the prestige of winning the first-ever Axie Infinity Origin Championship, the participants will be competing of the 400 AXS prize pool that will be on the line in the massive 2-day tournament.
Sky Mavis has invited the best Axie players and content creators in the Philippines to participate in the tournament. The eight invited players are: Boarknock, Hezelya, Kookoo, Laya, Pattie, Cara Cute, Atelo and Extra Rai.
The announcement post specified that the qualifiers for the Axie Infinity Origin Championship will be limited to players in the Philippines that “would be able to travel to Manila for the finals”. This suggests that the tournament will have some form of on-the-ground elements, like a dedicated broadcast studio where the players will do battle.
This marks the very first official tournament for Sky Mavis’ Origin expansion for their flagship creature card-battler Axie Infinity. The Origin expansion which is currently in beta will be taking over the current V2 version of the game after the latter concludes it final season in a few months. The Origin update has been met with some mixed results by the community following its launch. However, the Sky Mavis team has been consistently pumping out changes, tweaks and balances in the recent weeks to improve the game.
The current state of Axie Origin will be taken to a trial by fire of sorts when the Axie Infinity Origin Championship begins on June 11-12, 2022 and livestreamed from the Philippines on the official Axie Infinity Twitch Channel.
