The updates and news continue to roll out from Sky Mavis as they share with us the February developer update for Axie Infinity.
Tackling more Origin news, land gameplay, and even the recent impact of the season 20 changes, the dev diary entry really gives a lot to look forward to this year for Axie Infinity.
There’s a lot of things to take in so if you don’t have the time to check everything, here’s the shorter version of some of the key things that we think are worth taking a look at.
Origin is coming very soon!
Early this month, a major info bomb regarding Origin gameplay was released into the wild. While that gave us more detail about the upcoming changes to gameplay, new burn and spend mechanics and as well as how it will affect the current version of Axie Infinity, the February Dev update gave us the most awaited key detail – the release info.
Although not an exact date, the Sky Mavis team states that they are pushing for the release of Origin “by the end of next month” and that the team is “pushing incredibly hard to refine, polish, and prepare this experience.”
Together with the Origin release tease, a new starter Axie is also introduced, Olek. A gameplay trailer is also in production so expect to see more Origin news in the coming weeks as we anticipate this new chapter in Axie Infinity.
Lands: from 2D to 3D
Another anticipated add-on to Axie Infinity is the land gameplay. Iit has been the talk of Axietown for quite a while now, and even had an event tied to it during the Lunar New Year celebration, and now there’s an update: As per the dev diary land is making the switch from 2D to 3D gameplay.
Land gameplay will also undergo a multi-phase release meaning certain features and aspects of it will be implemented on a set timeline. The first wave of features for the land release will include town building, upgrades, harvesting and trading resources and as well as battles although item effects, and buffs are yet to come in future release phases.
Sky Mavis is also looking to incorporate more AXS functionality with land gameplay in future updates once land enters its phase 1 of implementation.
With the season 20 changes, Axie Infinity’s Smooth Love Potion (SLP) economy has also seen a drastic change, specifically in the amount of SLP being gained or minted by players. In the graph shared by Sky Mavis, the global SLP gain has been cut down to about 60% as the gains are now focused only on PVP battles.
While they have not shared whether the burn rate has also changed, this has helped stabilize the SLP economy, with the price sitting well above USD $0.19 or PHP 1 since the update. Still this is far off from the previous all time high of USD $0.39 or PHP 19.97… but with the upcoming release of Origin, the value could potentially be higher than what it is now.

Aside from economic updates, Sky Mavis also shared growth within the company revealing some new hires and an updated headcount.
This would hopefully make development faster as they try to hit more milestones this 2022, such as AXS governance, land gameplay, which is already in the works, mainstream release for Axie Infinity on Android and iOS app stores and the release of the Lunacia SDK, which will help expand the Axie Infinity metaverse.
