Shoal Star, Tiny Turtle nerfed in Axie Origin’s massive first patch

and finally a 60-sec timer!

The first huge balancing patch for Axie Infinity Origin went live earlier today. Several fixes were included in the update along with changes made in balancing the game. 

Axie Infinity Origin is the third iteration of the blockchain-enabled NFT card-battler and just had an Alpha launch last April 7 to the desktop with hundreds of thousands of players trying it for the first time. Since its launch, there have been a lot of feedback regarding bugs noticed in the game and some issues when it came to balancing as some cards and combinations were overpowered.

This morning, Axie Infinity rolled out its first major patch to Origin making several buffs, nerfs, and tweaks that significantly change the way the game is played. One of the new things is the turn duration for PVP battles. Initially, each turn took 45 seconds before the turn would automatically end. It has now been increased to 60 seconds allowing for more time to think and plan out your turns.

This massive first update for Axie Origin was mainly focused on balancing the game. Changes were made for several cards, runes, charms, and status effects. Of the cards, 23 of them were updated that have mostly nerfed card attacks and effects. One of the most significant changes is probably Shoal Star where the instant-kill requirement has been reduced from 120 HP to 90 HP.

Apart from this, there have also been 11 changes made to runes and 15 to charms with changes mostly limiting the effects those charms and runes have. The list also includes 5 status effect changes.

The Axie Origin patch also addressed several bugs that have been seen since the launch that has affected the overall gaming experience so hopefully the game is also running more smoothly.

The changes have had some significant effects on the current gameplay metas and strategies so players may need to reacquaint themselves or even change playstyles and strategies.

Some notable affected metas include the triple Aqua with Shoal Star for example or the Disable Metas on Reptile/Dusk Axies. These should underpower some of the cards and give a fair fighting chance for other Axies in the game.
