Are we going for another world record?

The goal to break another record is on for the Dota 2 community. Valve’s famed crowdfunding program, The International Battle Pass is launching later this week and with it the compendium system.

The announcement is confirmed by Dota 2 content creator Wykrhm Reddy who is also mainly the source of any big or major updates to Dota 2. The International Battle Pass is famous not only for the huge amount of in-game content that it brings but also the level of community participation that it allows. With the Battle Pass, Dota 2 fans can contribute to the prize pool of The International, as well as vote on new game content like the Arcana items for heroes. High-rarity items are also included in the Battle Pass, and are usually can only be obtained during TI season.

The TI battle pass back in 2013 and became a staple for every iteration of The International. The International being Dota 2’s biggest esports tournament is an annual event where teams from all over the world compete to become the game’s best esports team. Part of the battle pass sales goes to the tournament’s prize pool. This allows the TI prize pool to set and break records every year with last year’s TI hitting USD 40,018,195. The winning team of that year, Team Spirit, took home USD 18,208,300, effectively making all of its 5 team members millionaires.

This year’s The International will be held in the Suntec Singapore Indoor Stadium and will kick off this coming October 15, 2022. The event will see a total of 20 teams competing for the crown and will be coming from major esports regions – Southeast Asia, China, North America, South America and Europe. The International is known largely for having the biggest prize pools in any esports event in history with the next being the 2019 Fortnite World Cup which had a combined prize pool of USD 30,000,000.
